About iree

Organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in association with the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, the International Railway Equipment Exhibition (IREE) is the only international event in India for the Railway and its related sectors. The Indian Railways participate in the IREE in a big way, displaying their capabilities and future requirements. The IREE attracts participation and visitors from around 20 countries.

The first IREE was held in the year 1990 in Kolkata, with 55 exhibitors from India and overseas. The focus was Indian Railway's upgradation, modernization, electrification and computerization. The second IREE was held in the year 1994, again in Kolkata, with around 100 exhibitors.

The Government envisions Indian Railways (IR) to be a key driver of India's growth and development. It has initiated numerous steps towards transforming IR to become the most efficient land transport through capacity expansion, modernization of infrastructure, improving customer experience, focusing on safety and achieving financial self-sustainability. This session will be a platform to share the vision for the sector, impending policy reforms and basic framework for engagement. The session would also focus on future opportunities and directions for Indian Rail sector and potential areas of collaborations with industry.

  • PANEL DISCUSSION: FUTURE OF RAILWAYS

It is clear from the trends that railways will become an important part of the transport mix globally. The challenge will be in ensuring that the huge increase in demand is met in the most cost-effective, environmentally sensitive and customer-friendly way possible. It is important to move beyond the day-to-day focus and think about the forces shaping rail's future and formulate long term strategy. This session focusses on the learnings and experiences in evolution of rail industry in some of the countries. It would entail sharing of their experience, vision, plans to achieve the vision and domestic industry's preparedness to realise the vision. Indian rail industry needs to plan and strategize based not solely on past experiences but also on future possibilities and preferred outcomes.

  • SESSION I: MOBILITY 4.0: LATEST TECHNOLOGY TRENDS TO BRING A NEW COMPETITIVE LANDSCAPE IN EXISTING RAIL SYSTEMS

There is thrust on technology modernisation to improve efficiency and enhance overall carrying capacity. The session would focus on challenges and opportunities for adopting Mobility 4.0, advanced Digital Mobility on Rails. Mobility 4.0, digital transformation in mobility & logistics is an attempt to transform a passenger's travel into an easy and convenient process, where software programs and the rolling stock interact perfectly. This would bring increased reliability, safety and efficiency in daily operations. It is required for the industry to adopt such technologies would enhance the safety in rail transport. This session would focus on potential solutions through adoption of Mobility 4.0 to meet the challenges faced by IR.

  • SESSION II: FUTURISTIC RAIL TRANSPORT SYSTEMS FOR INDIA: HIGH SPEED RAIL or HYPERLOOP

Rapid evolution is taking place in the area of transportation systems of future. One of the recent developments in India is High Speed Rail. Few Asian countries including Japan, China, South Korea and Taiwan have already successfully developed their HSR systems. India is also announcing its first High Speed Rail -Mumbai-Ahmedabad to be completed by 2023. There are other new systems which are revolutionary in nature including Maglev and Hyperloop. Successful adoption of these systems may still be a question. However they hold a lot of promise. Industry needs to be working towards development in line with these futuristic transportation systems.

  • SESSION III : FUTURE OF RAILWAYS: IR AS AN END TO END LOGISTICS SOLUTION PROVIDER

An interconnected world of multi modal transport will lead to a seamless passenger or freight experience and rail will play a key part in this execution. The session will explore the opportunities that lie ahead for railways as part of a future transport system. With rail's inherent advantages of being energy efficient, cheap and safety, its potential role as the core mass-transit providers as well as expansion of freight mix is tremendous. The session will also give a glance at what a future rail system might look like.

  • SESSION IV: EVOLVING PARTICIPATIVE MODELS OF INDUSTRY GOVERNMENT PARTNERSHIPS

LPrivate Sector can tremendously enhance the performance of the railway sector. Roads, railways, ports and airports are the key infrastructure sectors for PPP in India. As on August 2012, these four sectors constituted 60% (534 projects) of the total PPP projects in India. Among the four, railways with a share of only 2% signifies it's potential. This session will focus on studying the global benchmarks/successful PPP models and deliberate on prerequisites to deliver large projects. The session would also focus on innovative solutions for building capacity through Public Private Partnerships(PPPs).
